Scores for the intellectually disabled

• Jul 12, 2016 - 05:11

I have played music many times with a person with intellectual disabilities, and he has created scores with different geometric shapes and colors to match the notes with the keys on the keyboard and used them to play the keyboard. I was wondering if I could develop a function within the Musescore program that could create special scores for the intellectually disabled with various geometric shapes and colors. Does the Musescore program already have that kind of function in existence? And if I decide to develop it, is it possible to get some help from the Musescore if needed? Thanks.

Welcome to MuseScore!

There are plugins to color the notes and assign them different shapes. The former is included with MuseScore (look in the Plugin Manager for "colornotes"), and the latter can be downloaded here . You can modify these plugins to use different colors or reassign the shapes. However, there are a limited number of notehead shapes that MuseScore supports—you can test them by selecting a single quarter note and setting "Head group" in the Inspector to different options. Hopefully there's a pretty near overlap with what your friend designed.

If this doesn't cover it, and you would like to develop it yourself, you're in exactly the right place! Check out https://musescore.org/en/development.
