Spacing issue with lyrics attached to tied notes or melismas
I'm finding that when there is a lyric syllable attached to a tied note, or attached to the first note of a melisma, the effect on the music spacing is such that the second notehead (the one to which the first notehead is tied) moves unnecessarily far to the right so as not to be above the same syllable. This cause a waste of space and visually unappealing spacing. (See attached images.)
The correct behavior would be that if the syllable ends with a word extension line (the underscore "_"), any subsequent noteheads that also have "_" as their lyric should space themselves as if the lyric were not there.

Hi! Yes, this is a known limitation in current versions of MuseScore. See for example #33246: Hyphenated melisma requires too much space and #5261: Lyrics for melismas should not respace notes if there is room before next syllable. The good news is that this should be better in MuseScore 3.0, although that is still quite a ways out. Meanwhile, you can respace notes manually (a pain to be sure) or maybe try some trickery involving mutliple voices.
