Melodic cues on drum staff

• Jul 25, 2016 - 14:59

I would like to be able to add cue notes reflecting a melody to the drum staff of a score. How can I do this? Right now, when I copy-paste from a non-drum staff the notes appear on a single line.

I would like to be able to create the cue notes just by copying melody notes from another staff, so that they (a) do not lose their pitch, (b) appear as small notes, and (c) don't interfere with any existing notes in the drum staff.

My request is similar to this issue but I do not want the notes to show on a single line.

This isn't a common way for published music to represent drum parts - much more often, the rhythm but not pitches of the melody are notated above the staff, so as to not be confused with actual drum notes. So by default, MuseScore supports only this method of providing cues (see the Handbook under "Tools", the section on slash notation.

If you wish to create actual melodic cues, I guess you could customzie the drumset as described in the Handbook under "drum notation", and to include appropriate drum definitions for each line'space of the staff. You wouldn't be able to copy and paste from a standard staff to create the notation; you'd have to enter the notes individually.

Might be easier to justuse a standard staff rather than a drum staff.
