Adding an extra sound for a specific instrument

• Jul 29, 2016 - 16:28

So basically I have this really good soundfont that I found, however the one issue I have is that it has a separate sound for staccato on instruments which is really annoying when I am writing a piece with both legato and staccato sections. What I want to know is am I able to add extra sounds (I basically mean like when you go on the mixer string instruments have three sounds - arco, pizz and trem, brass have normal and muted etc) to instruments and if so how can I do this.

Many thanks :)

If you're comfortable editing the text file that MuseScore looks at when setting up instruments for a new score, you can add new channels to the various brass instruments in the instruments.xml file (bare-bones documentation is at https://musescore.org/en/developers-handbook/references/instruments.xml…). Alternatively, you can use Instrument Change text in the score to add new Mixer channels on the fly, but then a new channel is added every time you switch sounds back and forth—you can't return to a previously used channel with an Instrument Change. See https://musescore.org/en/node/39041 for that.
