Lute Instruments with bourdons

• Aug 3, 2016 - 10:04

It would be good, and even necessary imho, to include the lute instruments with bourdons into the next release.

I'm working with this feature in the pre-release versions (3.0) quite often, and there are no real problems, although some things still could be improved.

In instruments.xml it would be good to have these instruments with preset with french tab by including (exchanged < by ( and > by ) ):
(stafftype staffTypePreset="tab6StrFrench")tablature(/stafftype)
(!-- (clef)TAB(/clef) --)

Then tablature would be used by default, if one chooses a lute instrument.
It could be useful to have preset also a Renaissance lute (up to 8 courses) with Italian tablature also - but it is not really difficult to change that, if one knows the program a little bit. Anyway it might be useful for people who don't know the program so good.

Sorry to reply so late.
Yes, that's an very good suggestion. I always feel teleported back to the sixties whenever a create a new score with lute tablature. Really, nobody notates lute music with violin clefs. The options should be 'tablature' and '(grand) staff'. It might be discusable whether the grand staff should default to the (historically more correct) combination C-clef/f-clef or the "modern" G-clef/F-clef combination, but that's so easy to change that it isn't really important.
