VMPK revisit

• Sep 14, 2011 - 01:02

I read the procedure on how to get VMPK to work with musecore, well it didn't work. I have VMPK working, and I have musescore working.
If I follow the procedure, VMPK will not start, because of an error that reads like this RT midi out::open port Error creating windows MM midi out port.
If I start VMPK first musecsore does not respond to input from VMPK. OS; Vista 64
Any ideas?

Ditch Vista and install the Ubuntu flavour of Linux which has a specialist Studio version for musicians.

Windows is bloody awful with virtual MIDI links! The only Windows (free) Virtual MIDI patchbay which might help you is now no longer supported since XP SP2.

Using the JACK control MIDI protocol on Ubuntu Studio you should be able to set up the internal MIDI links required far easier than on any Windows system.

Oh and btw IME virtual keyboards suck - badly!

Well Michael, I do have ubuntu studio on another machine, but my Vista machine has better speakers (Dolby 5.1).
And I have Musescore ...but when I checked this morning it was still the 0.9.9.3 version, and when I checked for updates the system told me it was already updated. Perhaps the ubuntu version numbers are 1 version down.

Thomas I have 10.10 maverick, I have 11.04 natty ready. I am just not ready, to go through the process again. I am not sure it that computer can run natty, it is an older system that came with XP.

I could not agree more. Install any ubuntu distrib if you can. Still, linking VMPK and MuseScore on windows should work. Some virtual cable support the last version of Windows. Which one did you install?
