Need advise about live recording

• Oct 2, 2016 - 12:09

I have a macbook, a Scarlett 2i2 USB audio interface (https://us.focusrite.com/usb-audio-interfaces/scarlett-2i2), and a sE Electronics X1 microphone (http://www.seelectronics.com/se-x1-microphone/).

I'd like to take a score that I've sequenced in MuseScore, and use it as accompaniment to record myself playing the solo part on the oboe.

What do I need to do? Can I do this with garage band which is native on the mac, or do I need to download/purchase some better software?

The score which I'm interested in first is just a piano accompaniment, but if it is successful I may want to sequence some other scores with orchestration to play along with. As I understand, garage band has descent piano sounds, but is extremely lacking in orchestral sounds as it is more intended for amateur guitar/drums based music.

I think I've asked this question before to individuals, but never on the forum. It'd be great to have some advise.

Export to WAV or MP3 from MuseScore, then import into GarageBand. That way you'll get the exact same sounds, instead of using GarageBand's own. Then add a new audio track, press the Record button, and play!

if it's just Piano, you can also export MIDI from MuseScore and load it in GB. You will be able to change the instrument in GB and record yourself on top.
