Inserting empty measures without the horizontal number bar

• Oct 4, 2016 - 22:10

Hello!

I used to be able to insert empty measures (with rests) at the beginning of a score (and elsewhere) but can no longer do so without the numbered bar being inserted as well. Please see attached for an example.

Can someone help me with this as I have not been able to find the solution after researching the forum section.

Megan, I don't exactly know what you mean.

Did you make sure you didn't hit "m" by mistake? If you press M that makes all empty measures into multi-measure rests.

Thank you for your kind reply, Elwin.

Please see the attached for an example of what I am trying to achieve.

How I now go about adding measures that I intend to fill in later, e.g., after an introduction is written with maybe even a pick up measure, I go to the "Add" drop down box, select "insert number of measures" and select a quantity such as 5. I used to be able to put in a quantity, such as 5 that would like measure 6 looks like now on the attached score, but currently it puts in the 5 bar and not a duplicate of measure 6 with just a whole rest in it.

Thanks much!
Megan

The 'show multi-measure rests' tool is a toggled function; i.e.: it is either on or off. If you have it turned on, any extra empty measures you insert will show up as H-bar multi-measure rests. If you have it turned off, those measure will show up as single, empty measures, each containing a single, whole-measure rest. (Note that default behaviour is to have this tool 'off'. You must have typed 'm' at some point while working on the score to turn it on.)

In sum, if you don't like what you're seeing, type 'M' again and the program will display rests in the other mode.
