How to move notes horizontally

• Oct 23, 2011 - 14:02

Say I entered a number of notes and discovered I had forgotten a very important half-note pause at the beginning. Only way I have found to insert that now is to remove all the notes and redo it, which is very annoying.

Is there a way I can select a number of notes and shift them horizontally to make room for forgotten notes or pauses?

I know I can cut and paste whole measures, but that doesn't help me when the mistake is just half a measure. To fix it I would need to shift the notes just half a measure. Hope that made sense... anyone have a solution to this?

It is possible to copy and paste partial measures.

If you select a note and then use shift+right arrow each successive note will be added to the selection.

Incidentally I find it is better to insert an empty bar when doing editing of this kind, make the correction and then copy the other notes into it, finally deleting the faulty bar.

There is no insert mode in MuseScore, Cut and paste is a solution:
Click on the first not you want to keep, shift-click on the last, hit ctrl-x, select the note that should become the first. enter ctrl-v and voila.
