1644 -- 1619
I have gone back to 619 because of the problem previously of all text disappearing when I upgraded to 1644.
Now, however, I am unable to place a Dal Segno sign with out a crash. As I remember, I had problems with a coda sign previously..

The crash is a known issue with r1619 (fixed in later revisions). See the prerelease-README.txt notes.
Perhaps it was better to leave a trackback to your initial issue (http://musescore.org/en/node/1312) or perhaps add it as a comment to that old topic.
There is now a new prerelease out so perhaps you can give that one a try: http://prereleases.musescore.org/windows/
