Only piano when using Jack Midi out

• Oct 26, 2011 - 15:21

I'm running Musescore v1.1 on Debian and have managed to get midi out on my Roland piano, with Jack. However, all instruments sound like Piano or drums, and I cannot change sounds in the mixer (the fields for sounds are blank). Controls for volume, panning, reverb and chorus works fine, but the Drumset checkbox has no effect (some random instrument sound like drums instead). What might be wrong here?

I think you have fallen foul of MuseScore's current MIDI support limitations.

I don't think MuseScore sends Patch Change messages, yet, and as the Drumset command will involve sending a channel change to your Roland Piano, I suspect that may not yet be implemented either.

Do things work if you set up the required instruments beforehand on your Roland?

BTW you omitted to mention which model of Roland piano you are using - some of the more basic models have a very limited number of instruments and would not be able to play back General MIDI properly anyway - if it doesn't have the GM General MIDI logo or the GS Roland equivalent logo on it then it won't be compatible.
