MuseScore Not Working

• Jan 3, 2012 - 13:45

I've installed MuseScore on a Windows 7 PC. I can open the programme, but that's as far as i get, absolutely nothing works. When I click on menus and icons nothing happens.
I've uninstalled, cleaned the registry, rebooted and re-installed - still nothing.

new computer - windows vista.

Rebooted, reinstalled tried the firewall trick.

I have:
AVG
Use Firefox

and the only pain in the butt thing that had happened prior to this musescore one was a "silverlight" upgrade necessary for my netflix.

NOTHING WILL OPEN>>>> I'm heartbroken......

I suspect many more will have problems soon enough, I'm willing to bet everyone will be avg and firefox users

I lack all prowess and savvy to go deep with technical resolution of this... but will take to computer to someone who is..... If it fixes I'll post

i'm windows 7 (starter) it all ran perfectly - use it throughout the day every day to write and print exercises for my students. Then it just didn't open - the icon appears on the toolbar, task manager says it's running - no screen no nothing

I have disabled firewalls, uninstalled reinstalled, ran cc cleaner - repeat.

No Matter what I do I just get icon on the toolbar. Taskmanager says it's working - NO Screen. Nothing.....over 4 books of exercises I can't get to. This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.

Hey Tim,

Often when MuseScore refuses to start, we have seen it is caused by conflicts with the sound driver. In order to define whether this is the case with your system or not, let's try to start MuseScore without sound:

For Win7 32 bit:
Start (Windows) > Run: "C:\Program Files\MuseScore\bin\mscore.exe" -s

For Win7 64 bit:
Start (Windows) > Run: "C:\Program Files (x86)\MuseScore\bin\mscore.exe" -s

Also see this video: http://www.screenr.com/Eqos

Can you let us know whether MuseScore starts? If so, could you also tell us what sound driver you have on your Win7 system?

I have just had the same problem of Musescore not working in Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit so what I did was Uninstall Musescore and then carry out a Restore of my PC to an earlier date and then I re-installed Musescore and everything was working again. I then checked on the compatability with Windows 7 32 Bit and it came up as Not Compatable. This happened because I think of the latest Microsoft Updates for Windows 7. Any way try this and if like mine it works again then fine.

Thanks for reporting this musicmac. Could you tell me a bit more on how you checked the compatibility on Win 7 32 bit? Do you perhaps have a screenshot for me? Could you also state what the latest version is of Win 7 you have installed now? I'm eager to get to the bottom of this and fix this.

Hi Tim I have Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit and this is what I did.

1. You need to open Troubleshooter by clicking on the Start Button then clicking Control Panel
and then under "System and Security" click - "Find and Fix Problem.

2. In the " Find and Fix Problem window - click on "Run Programs made for a previous version of
Windows". A new window pops up - "Program Compatibility" - click the "Next" button and the
PC will find all of the programs on your PC that may have an issue with Window 7 Home
Premium. Scroll down and select Musescore and then click "Next".

3. Now click on "Try recommended settings" the compatibility mode will show, "Windows XP
(Service Pack 2)". You then have to click, " Start Program" and if , Musescore works in this
format then click "Next".

4. Click "Save settings" and after you have done all this you may get the message, "Incompatible
Application - detected. If you don't then open up Musescore and if it is working then all OK.

5. If Musescore is still not working then try what I did which is to do a RESTORE of the PC to a
point about a month previous and then my Musescore program worked again and it is still
working. I think that what has happened is that Microsoft's latest update for Windows has
now rendered Version 1.3 of Musescore Incompatible with Windows.

6. Anyway Best of Luck and let me know if this cures the problem for you.
