Fingering offset sensitive to stem direction

Fingering works well EXCEPT proper settings for upward stems are always wrong for downward stems and vice versa. I don't see any way to compensate for this and as a work-around will add a second set of fingerings for the other position. An ideal solution would let me specify two offsets that apply to the two different case.
