Written Dynamics vs Playback Dynamics

• Dec 23, 2024 - 18:08

Apologies if this is already a feature, but I'm unable to find it.

Due to the nature of MuseSounds recordings, some dynamic levels in playback are nowhere near where they should be. Many times, I often have a dynamic placed so that I can visualise the score easier, but then, it is difficult to keep track of which dynamic levels are where they should be, and where they should be written as something else. This cannot be fixed via the mixer, as that would ruin the playback of the part in the rest of the score. It'd be nice to be able to change the played dynamic level vs the written dynamic level in its Properties bar when you select it, like how you are able to change the playback tempo when selecting written word tempos.

I'd much rather not having to go back to MS Basic sounds for playback, as that kind of defeats the entire purpose of having MuseSounds in the first place.

Another person also had this problem more than a year ago: https://musescore.org/en/node/341662
Unless I've missed something, this still isn't a feature.

For me, the problem with dynamics in general is that playback is so very dependent on the playback device. I'll set up a score just the way I like it through my computer headphones. Then I listen in my car and notice that the trumpets are way too loud at a certain point. Or the bass is too loud using different headphones. Yes. Muse sounds dynamics can be not accurate. But there can be problems with real players, also.
