A few questions:
Which version of MuseScore are you using?
Have you tried a "revert to factory settings" ("mscore -F" on console), if it solves your problem?

What is the output in the console after a crash?
And last but not least: Which Linux distribution you're using? The commands to install or update differ sometimes between the distributions.
Have you tried the Linux AppImage? Dead easy to install and if it works for you then you can just download the upgraded one when it comes along without having to do anything to your existing Linux setup.
