cross-measure chords?

• Feb 9, 2012 - 09:50

I am trying to enter cross-measure notes but when I add one, the other is deleted, so it seems like the only way to do this is to enter all those notes as different voices, which means there can only be 4 such notes maximum in the chord.

I can enter this as regular notes plus beams but that does not sound right (2 short notes instead of 1 long one).

This is illustrated in the attachement.

is this a bug or there is a workaround? (except for the voices)

Not sure what you are trying to do but you need only two voices to notate the example you gave. See attachement, could you explain where the problem is?
To enter "normal" chord (same duration, same stem direction), you can use Shift + Note name or stack the notes with the mouse.

Your version contains what I want but I can't enter this myself.

I am trying to stack with the mouse, but once I add a note at the same time position (in N mode) the other notes are replaced by this new note - this ONLY happens when I am entering cross-measure note. When I enter a note that fits in current measure, it works well. This is how I entered the first chord. The second is what I want (but with 1 voice), the third is an attempt to enter the same chord as 1st but cross-measure.

When I try to enter this using keyboard, it goes like this - I enter one note, then return by pressint 'left', then enter the second note with SHIFT. This adds a note, but it's not cross measure. Example of this is in attachement to this message. I think it should not be possible to do this without 2 voices btw.

Maybe this is some kind of limitation of my version? I have 1.1 from debian unstable, perhaps it's changed somehow - I also have 100% cpu bug in there...

100% CPU is not normal. It's probably due to your soundsystem settings. Check edit -> Preferences -> I/O and be sure that only ALSA or Portaudio is selected and restart Musescore if you do any changes.

Now I understand that you mean tied notes. See Tie .
To enter the tied notes accross barlines, I create the two half notes chords, then select the stem of one of them and press +.
