Independent snare and cymbal notation when using dotted notes for snare
I had a bar of 4 cymbal hits (on the four beats) but when I tried to change a snare to be dotted while it was also on the same beat as a cymbal, the cymbal's length also changed. Is there a way to only change the snare? This all in the first voice, I'm using.

Change one of them to a different voice.
Being in the same voice means sharing rhythm within a measure.
I'd also observe, though, that added a dot to a drum note is fairly meaningless - it's not like it's literally going to sound longer. But sure, if you want different rhythms for snare and cymbal, that is by definition different voices.
