First voice rest stuck up

• Dec 25, 2016 - 03:04

I am working on the Flute Sonata in Bb by Beethoven and I came across a problem not in notation or anything like that but Musescore itself.

That's right, there is a bug here.

Now what exactly is the problem? It is a quarter rest stuck up from where it should be.

Here is how I got this problem:

I was putting in the first voice notes for the left hand in measures 25-27 and all was well

I then went back and added the second voice notes of those same measures

After I added the second voice notes the first voice quarter rest stuck up as I put in that last quarter note.

But what is worse is that now, I can't get the rest back to normal position. If only I could move it 2 lines down. Or maybe you could add an automatic adjust feature so that when I cut out the second voice rest, it recognizes no second voice and so the first voice rest goes back to normal position.

I have only noticed it with quarter rests but I am sure that it also happens with eighth rests, sixteenth rests, etc.

It's not a bug; it's normally correct for voice 1 rests to be higher than center if there is content in voice 2. Otherwise the rest would often overlap the voice 2 content. If the voice 2 content happens to be low enough on the staff that there is no conflict, you can optionally move the rest down, just like you would for any other element - click, use arrow keys or Inspector. Also, as a special case, if you hadn't deleted the voice 2 rest that technically belongs there as well, but had instead simply marked it invisible, the voice 1 rest would have automatically returned to the center line.
