Entering Rests from VMPK (Virtual MIDI Piano Keyboard)

• Mar 2, 2012 - 01:35

Hello,

Cheers on the great product. I love Muse Score. I'm ever in search of ways to make note entry as cumberless as possible. VMPK is a very nice tool, and I use it quite a lot. However, there is one thing about it that slows me down quite a lot. Rests. Say I have a measure in which I want my Cello to play quavers on the and of every beat. I turn on Note Entry mode. I select the quaver. If this was a steady stream of quavers, I'd have the notes entered in no time. Instead every time I come to a rest, I must change focus back to MuseScore and enter the rest, then go back to VMPK and continue note entry. This can get quite difficult to deal with.

For that matter, changing the length of the note I'm entering can be cumbersome this way too. Does anyone have any strategies for how I might work around these slow downs?

I don't see a solution in MuseScore 1.X. MuseScore 2.0 will let you program some MIDI keys to enter rest, enter note entry mode, play, stop and change note durations.
