How do I add new Handbell Soundfont and integrate with the TimGM Soundfont?

• Mar 7, 2012 - 16:12

I'm trying to add a new Handbell Soundfont, from FMJ with recorded handbell sounds, and it adds it from Display->Synthesizer Okay.. However, when I attempt to play a score that has both Handbell and Piano staves in it they ALL play with bell sounds, and the Piano instrument isn't available on the instrument list. Anyone know what this newbie to MuseScore is doing wrong? I don't know how to integrate the Handbell sounds from the new SF2 file into the TimGM stuff already in the program. Many thanks for any replies.

MuseScore 1.x only supports the use of one soundfont at once.

The use of multiple soundfonts is coming in version 2.x which will be available later this year.

Until then, it won't be possibvle to run the Handbell soundfont side by side with TimGM6Mb.

It would be possible to integrate the handbell sounds into TimGM by the use of a soundfont editor such as Viena.

Folks,

Yes, have been using the excellent (free) application called "Viena SoundFont Editor" (from SynthFont: http://www.synthfont.com/) that allows me to merge SoundFonts. I used Viena to merge the "HandBells.sf2" Soundfont by FMJ Software (http://www.fmjsoft.com/siframe.html) into the "GeneralUser GS.sf2" Soundfont by S. Christian Collins Software (http://www.schristiancollins.com/generaluser.php).

Hope This Helps.

We are in the process of trying to set up a central resource for samples and soundfonts, and to create new ones for area which are lacking.
