Can't delete dynamic

• Mar 20, 2012 - 23:42

Windows 7, MuseScore 1.2 Revision 5470

I have a score that I'm working on. Of that score, I have multiple saves/backups that I use to copy & paste from to help me work on the main project.

More to the point, a part in the main score project has a quarter rest with a dynamic attached to it. This was caused because copying and pasting does not copy and paste dynamic markings, causing whatever dynamic marking that was there previously to attach to the new music that was pasted there. However, what I pasted had a rest in this particular spot.

When I go to delete the dynamic, I click on it, press my delete button, and it should disappear. However, there is no change in the result. The dynamic will not delete. I can continue to click on it, move it around, and try to delete again, but it wont. Reloading the score does not help, nor does closing out of MuseScore and rebooting the program. The dynamic seems to be permanent. However, any new dynamic markings made after this deletes correctly.

What is wrong with this, and can anyone help me?

Ps- I'm not willing to make the score public because it is not entirely my work. I'm working with a friend. So, I cannot upload a direct example for you see what I mean. Sorry.

I've tried recreating the bug, but have been unsuccessful. Finally, I cheated and deleted the measure entirely and inserted a new blank measure in its place. Then, I re-pasted what was there previously. I'm safe doing this because, as I mentioned previously, dynamics are not included in the Copy & Paste functions.

If it's still possible to get back to the version with the problem, perhaps you could try deleting everything *but* the affected measure and post that? Also, you might want to discuss with your friend the value of helping make improvements to MuseScore possible.

Anyhow, certainly, items that have already been deleted but still show up on screen temporarily are not uncommon, but they always go away on reload, and often even before that. So what your describing must be something different, and I'd have to imagine that seeing a sample score would help.

I had already gone and found a way around it. You're in luck, however, because I have so many back-ups of the same file, I found the bug in a previous save in the exact same location. This would mean this bug wouldn't be a Copy-&-Paste bug since I have never copied and pasted this particular spot until yesterday. See attachment "Dynamic Deletion Bug".

Flutes: Beat 1: "Forte" dynamic will not delete.

Again, I'm using Windows 7, MuseScore 1.2 Revision 5470.

Interesting. I was able to reproduce easily. Simply right clicking on the "dynamic" told me one interesting thing right off the bat - this isn't actually a dynamic at all, but an ordinary text element. Not staff text or any other particular *type* of text - just plain text. I'm guessing that has something to do with why it can't be deleted, although I have no idea how it got that way. Examinig the MSCX file (the main text file stored within the MSCZ archive) shows it as being perhaps in a frame within the copyright text, although I don't understand enough of the MSCX format to say what that might actually mean.

Anyhow, it was easy enough to delete that Text elements by editing the MSCX file directly. Would be interesting to know how it got into that state, but hopefully now there is more info for someone to go on in hunting this down.
