Adding 'dot' to note resets notehead and size

When working with notes for which noteheads have been set to something other than the default, or that have been set to 'small' (via the 'note properties' section inexplicably called 'chord properties'): If I change the duration by adding a dot the notehead symbol and size are reset. This is counterintuitive, and has led to a lot of wasted time.
