Previous to the screen shot I have changed one bar from 4/4 to 6/4 and then the next bar back to 4/4.

At the end of the notes, I needed a quarter rest in the now blank bar. I went to the rest and clicked on "Quarter". The result was 1 quarter rest and 1 half rest.

In the past I have sometimes been able to reset bar attributes by going to the beginning of the bar and selecting whole rest and "space bar" - ing through the bar.

In this case the result was as you see it.
