Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra SF2 Slur and Whole notes problem

• Jan 22, 2017 - 03:02

I used Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra as one of my sounds fonts and the main problem that prevents me from using it more is that when the sounds playback, the instruments sounds no longer than a whole note. As an example, you put a 2 whole notes down on 2 measures side by side, you then tie it and let the SSO instrument play, it fades out right as it hits the tie. Is there anyway to fix this? I write music for my band and they won't be able to practice like this.

IIRC, the SF2 version of Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra is just a direct conversion from the original SFZ version, and looping information (which is what allows the sound to be arbitrarily sustained) may not have been copied. This is ironic because presumably one of the main reasons for creating the SF2 version is that MuseScore 2.0 couldn't interpret the looping information in the SFZ version. The good news is that soon MuseScore 2.1 will be released, which will have no problems with the SFZ version.

So, my advice is to use the original SFZ version in MuseScore 2.1, and if you want it urgently (i.e., can't wait a month or two for 2.1), use a nightly build from https://musescore.org/en/download#Nightly-versions. (Be careful not to download a master/3.0 nightly; those are not safe to use!)

There is no looping information in the SSO SF2 sample set.

This is one of the issues that needs tackling for MuseScore 2.1 and beyond.

One problem being they are stereo samples, consequently finding an acceptable loop point for both left and right elements is more complicated, and I have yet to find a tool which can help with this.
