Having trouble Getting Jack to detect MuseScore input

• Feb 14, 2017 - 21:36

Here's the Scoop: I'm a total noob at this. I'm trying to create a song for my fiancee's and my first dance at our wedding! The song has been written in MuseScore2 on Windows 10 Pro, and I'm in possession of Jack 1.9.10 and Kontakt 5. I have seen several tutorials on this and other forums to have Jack take midi input from MuseScore and feed it to Kontakt, but have thus far been unsuccessful.

Here's what I've done so far:

1. I edited preferences in MuseScore for MIDI output to go to Jack by unchecking PortAudio, and then checking JACK audio server, and also checking Use jack Audio, Use Jack MIDI, USE Jack Transport, and Timebase Master.

In Jack, I have clicked Setup, and set Server Prefix to "jackd -S -R -X winmme" as instructed, and set the driver to PortAudio. I start Jack server successfully, but when I click connect, Jack does not detect MuseScore.

All this and I'm still unsure how to plug Jack into Kontakt when all's said and done. Once I've got that done, I plan to record/export the music I arranged, played on Kontakt instruments, and add my voice using Audacity.

Audacity I know how to use. Getting to that step in the process is my main goal.

Any and all help is appreciated!

Hi Will, congratulations on getting married! Do you actually need a real-time connection between MuseScore and Kontakt? If not, then it would be infinitely simpler to just export a MIDI file from MuseScore and then import it into Kontakt.
