Font on Musescore 2 too small.

• Feb 15, 2017 - 20:49

I have seen threads talking about this problem, but no solution has been found.
I'm using version 2.0.3 on Windows 10. The font used in Musescore's interface under things like the pallet and mixer are too small. It seems to be much smaller than all of the other applications and programs in my computer. This computer is fairly new, and I haven't made any changes to the system's font size. I also haven't made any changes to Musescore's font size. On fact, I've already reset the program back to factory settings just to make sure. The font is still too small.
The font for the "file, edit etc." isn't too small. Just everything else.
I've attached a few screenshots. One is of Musescore. The second is a blank Microsoft word document. And the third is a Google search.

This happens if MuseScore is unable to correctly determine your monitor resolution and/or size. It's known to happen if you have multiple monitors connected with MuseScore on running on one other than the primary, also with some TV sets. If either of these applies to you, then it's a known issue, but if not, we'd love to know more about your monitor configuration.

Meanwhile, the is a partial workaround - start MuseScore from the command line, with the "-x (scale-factor)" option to say how much bigger you want things. So, -x 2 to double the size of things.

See #106241: Monitor resolution detected incorrectly, making sizes wrong for more information.

I don't have multiple monitors. I have a touch-screen laptop that can flip over to work like a tablet. But I never considered that to be a second monitor.
This is my screen resolution. I haven't changed that since I first got the computer.

And I'm not quite sure how to start a program from the command line. I'm gonna try to look it up, but I'm not entirely computer savvy.

Okay, so I was able to figure out what you told me. This time I tried it with "-x5" just so I could see a major difference.
It seemed to make certain things bigger, but it didn't work on the words under "Pallets," which is what I need to be bigger. This is how "-x5" looks like for me.

Unfortunately, every system is a little different in terms of how it is set up for fonts. Windows has a bunch of settings in the display options, letting you set text sizes for menus, dialog boxes, etc. We honor some but not all of those settings. Right now we still don't fully understand what is going on with the particular systems that show a problem. It's something we'd like to be able to address for 2.1 - it's really my #1 personal priority in fact - but so far I can't manage to reproduce the problem myself, which is hampering my efforts to do anything about it. So anything you are able to discover about what miught be triggering it on your system would be helpful.

From time to time I read similiar support requests, that the showing fonts are too small and I'm just curious, what happens there. Maybe someday I will buy a high resolution monitor to see if I get similar problems (it's more similar, because if I understand you correct you're using a common Laptop screen).

For a future version there will be a -r option for specifying the monitor resolution:

I could imagine it could be important to know details about your hardware settings (graphic chip, monitor...), the OS and the adjusted screen resolution settings in your OS - but maybe in addition to it we'll need further informations too.

(btw. besides the font issue: for the toolbar I've learned for some users seems to work the -x1 option too, although it should be the same as without any options)
