Possible bug in paste
I've been working on a piece which originated as a midifile. There are number of places where a half-note, on the beat,
is preceded by a 16th note which I want to pull back and convert to an 8th note. I copy the 16th note and try to paste it
over the 16th rest preceding it. My intent was to then convert the 16th to an 8th note, which would absorb or replace
the original note. However the paste seems to convert my 16th note into a half-note and discards the original
half-note!
I have just put together a one-bar test with rests, a 16th note and a half-note. Doing copy of the 16th and
pasting over the 16th rest before it producec a quarter note, an 8th note and a quarter note. I think this must
be a bug!
I'm running version 1.1, revision 4611 which I obtained from the Ubuntu repository. I'd prefer not to
rebuild, but will do so if it helps.

1.1 is pretty old - the current version is 1.2, and it fixed a lot of bugs. I can't reproduce the problem you are describing in 1.2. Click the sixteenth note, cltr-C, click the reset preceding it, ctrl-V, result is the rest is replace by a sixteenth (and the original sixteenth remains where it was), just as I would expect.
It actually seems pretty unlikely something this basic could have been broken in 1.1. My guess is you are doing something wrong - like when you think you are copying just the sixteenth, you have actually selected the whole measure. Were you seeing a blue box around the measure, or any part of it? If so, then you weren't copying just the note, but everything in the box.

I can't see what I could have been doing wrong - I only selected the single note, and I did try variations
but still it messed up. I'd love to try 1.2, but can't pursuade Ubuntu to see the newer version.
I entered the command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mscore-ubuntu/mscore-stable
and that seemed to work. In synaptic, the repositories panel shows the mscore resources
but the only packages found are the original 1.1 versions.
I'll just have to live with it until Ubuntu gets round to updating the old versions.

MuseScore 1.2 is only available by default in Ubuntu 12.04. If you are using a older version, you can "pursuade Ubuntu" by adding the MuseScore PPA to the list of your package manager.
