Palette panel doesn't display correctly

I have Windows XP and MuseScore 1.2. I have been using 1.2 for quite some time. The palette feature does not display correctly. The steps I take to access it are the F9 function key, or Display menu choose "palette". I removed and reinstalled 1.2, but that doesn't fix the problem. It used to work correctly. I did not find an entry like this in the user handbook.
