Saving As & Saving Copy

Hi,
I have just this weekend migrated from MS to Ubuntu 9.4(Jaunty), (love it!) Put in Mscore 9.4 from repository.
I have previously on Vista worked a score then copied so can redo as different instrument/key/whatever.
But when "save a copy" or "save as" on Ubuntu - nothing happens! - I've searched the whole system and cannot find the copies. Same with "save as" in PDF format.
I just read a long post possibly about a similiar issue (in part) and recommendation is to go to latest revision, which maybe fixes this.
Only problem is I have no idea (yet) how to download programs and install to Ubuntu without going through repositories.
Any help would be appreciated.
