Midi input notes double up
My son and I are new to Musescore. I just bought him a m-audio Midisport Uno midi cable to usb converter. We have a Kawai K-4 keyboard and have connected it using the Midisport Uno to our Mac running OSX 10.7.5
The problem seems to be that when my son plays as normal speed and holds a key to long the notes jumble up or play like 2 keys have been pushed at the same time. However if he plays choppy and just press the keys real quick and then the notes seem import correctly.
On my midi out setting on the Kawai K4, I have shut off all extras such as HOLD for pedal, modulation, I've shut off all extras from the Kawai K4 including HOLD, Bender, Volume etc. but this still does not work. I'm clueless as to why this happens. I thought maybe something in the preferences of Musescore under I/O but below are the settings I currently use. I've changed these but nothing seems to change.

Can anyone help with this? I just want my son to be able to play normally and the music score automatically start writing.

While this sounds like it ought to be easy, that doesn't turn out to be the case.

MuseScore meeds you to enter you music one note at a time. You choose (with mouse or computer keyboard) the duration of a note, then play the note, one at a time. Its called "step time" entry. You're looking for "real time" entry, but as noted, MuseScore doesnt have this, and it's an extremely difficult thing to do. If he plays in excellent metronomic time, he han tey recording a MIDi file using software designed for that purpose, the try omporting the MIDI file. The results are not lokely to be very usable, though.
In a nutshell, you need to set the quantization so the recording program knows how to interpret the input. MuseScore, as it is a notation program, not a "MIDI recording" program does not really support this.
What you need is a sequencer to record the output and then you would be able to import that "recording" into MS. Here is a list of choices: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_MIDI_editors_and_sequencers
Be aware that one needs to have precise meter to record a fairly good file, and then there will be a certain amount of massaging after import.

Thank you for such a quick response!! I was under the impression the Musescore had real time input so thank you for setting me straight and in the right direction.
