Key change not working in first few bars

• Jan 12, 2013 - 12:45

I am transposing a piece of music and need to go from E to F#. This is OK except Musescore insists on changing to Gb. When I try to change this key signature to F# it won't change the first 2 or 3 bars, but the rest of the tune is OK. This happens whether I change the instrument to Tenor Sax or just transpose. I have tried this with a few lead sheets and keep having the same problem.

I think the fact MuseScore autojmatically tries to "simplify" the key by default by converting to flats once you get to 6 sharps is probably normal, although I would think there should be an option to prevent that. Looks like in 2.0, this behavior is already changed - a score in E transposes to F# as expected.

Meanwhile, you can force the key to be F# after the fact by simply changing it (dragging a new key signature from the palette). When using instrument transposition (eg, setting instrument to tenor sax and then turning off concert pitch), it seems that doesn't "stick" - it reverts to Gb if you toggle concert pitch on and off again. So do this last. Or, use the regular transposition dialog instead of the instrument transposition faciity when trying to create transposed pieces in keys with 6 or more shaprs.

But the problem changing keys in the first bars is not normal - I've never seen anything like that. Posting the score would help.
