Greater visibility of piano roll editor

• May 15, 2017 - 01:16

It is easy to not be aware of the piano roll editor feature, since it is hidden behind a menu that only appears when right clicking a staff. What about adding it to the MuseScore's top toolbar View menu?

Also it disappears behind the main window. Even if reclick the option in the right-click menu, it doesn't come back to the top. I say that right clicking the piano roll option should bring it to the front if it already exists.

I say make it dockable too.

Also, I'm wondering about allow greater control of selected staff. Maybe should clicking on another staff in scoreView change the piano roll to display the newly-selected staff? Maybe have a staff selector in the piano roll editor. Also, does it make sense to allow multiple piano rolls for different staffs to coexist? Or maybe have notes from different staffs appear on the same piano roll, maybe with different color?

I'm also noting that on latest 3.0-dev I notice that the piano roll isn't being updated immediately when I add notes to the staff...it seems that piano roll view is only updated when I increase or decrease a note's pitch, it seems. I'm presuming this is a bug which has already been reported...anyway.
