Customized automatic beaming

• Apr 3, 2013 - 22:44

I have recently sampled 16 different software applications for music notation, and have finally settled on MuseScore. Having tried so many though, I have run across several features that I really liked, even if I didn't like the overall application. So I will place requests for my favorites here.

The first request I will make is in regards to beaming. I prefer to beam my notes according to beat. That is, all notes in beat 1 are beamed together, all notes in beat 2 are beamed together, but separate from beat 1, and so on. MuseScore automatically beams together beats 1 and 2, then beats 3 and 4. I then have to go back and "un-join" the notes.

Another software package I tried used a custom time signature to accomplish this. I know MuseScore can create a custom time signature, but I would want to change how it is displayed, and I don't know if it affects beaming.

What I was able to do is create a Time Signature of 1+1+1+1 over 4. Then I click a setting for it to be displayed as 4 over 4. Automatic beaming was set to "according to time signature."
