program inserting rests where notes used to be

• Apr 26, 2013 - 15:43

Hi,
I'm using Musescore 1.2 on Mac OSX.

I'm having this strange thing happen and wondering if anyone is also experiencing this and how to prevent it:

I've written my music and am going back to make some minor note changes and as I scroll through the document, there are notes missing!

i.e. At arbritrary bars, where there used to be notes, are now random rests. Rests that I have not put in. I save along the way, but why is it undoing the work I have done?

Thanks so much in advance for your help.

Impossible to guess without seeing your score, and ideally, steps to reproduce the problem. I've never heard of anything like this, so I'd guess either your score has become corrupt somehow, or perhaps you are accidentally opening an older version of the score, or you somehow otherwise accidentally deleted the notes.

So embarrassed!

I figured it out:
It's a 4/4 piece. I had to change 2 measures in the middle of the piece to a different time signature (3/4) and then revert back to (4/4) two bars later. When I switched to 3/4, it converted the remainder of the document, effectively chopping off the 4th beat of subsequent bars. Which meant when I put it back to 4/4, my notes were gobbled up into rests.

Next time, I'll have to figure out how to change the time signature in the middle of the piece for specific bars without affecting the remainder of the piece.

Sorry for my sleep-deprived panic and thanks for the help. Love the program!

In 1.X, time signature changes do ndeed leave rests (or delete notes) so that notes stay in the same measures. In 2.0, I believe it will become possible to have the music reflow automatically. Meanwhile, for 1.X, yo can get tht effect by selecting the region, cut, make your change, then paste.
