Compound time in 1.2

• Apr 26, 2013 - 15:46

I am trying to enter music in 12/8, however it is giving me straight 4/4 ie it does not recognise a crotchet as being 2/3rd of a beat, so rests are all wrong. What am I doing wrong? I am on 1.2 as I am using Ubuntu and they don't make 1.3 available yet. Thanks.

It helps to attach the score you are working on and describe what you are doing, what you expect to see happen, and what happens instead. But the way MuseScore (and all other notation programs I am aware of) works, if you want to enter a dotted quarter, you need to enter a dotted quarter explicitly, regardless of what time signature you are in. changing to a compound time doesn't magically change the note entry procedures so that entering a quarter note automatically adds a dot. And if you want to enter an eight rest, you need to enter that manually - you cannot enter a quarter rest and expect MuseScore to split it up for you. It does what you tell it. MuseScore does, however, obey standard beaming rules, so if you enter a quarter followed by four eighths in 6/8, it will correctly beam the last three eighths together.
