Changing the Playback to a MIDI Sound

• Jun 20, 2013 - 02:14

So I'm trying to make a .midi track and I noticed that different sounds in the mixer on the Musescore Program sound nothing like they do when you save it to a .midi. Is there any way I can change it so that I can hear what it would sound like if it was a .midi file while still being in Musescore? It would be a really big help, thanks!

MIDI files have no sound in themselves - they rely on the sounds used by the program that plays it. That's how the files can be so small. So every p rogram that plays a MIDI file will sound different - that's just the nature of the format. If tou want to be in control of the sound, don't use MIDI - use a normal audio format like WAV or FLAC,

To have the sounds the same in your MIDI sequencer as in MuseScore, you need to route your MIDI playback to the same soundfont that MuseScore uses, which, unless you have set a different one will be TimGM6mb in 1.3

There are various soundfont players around (Google should find most of them for you) including the one which the MuseScore synth is based on - Fluid.

All you need to do once you have installed the player is route output to that from your sequencer - how, depends on which one you are using - and then hit play.

Hey Presto you will have MuseScore sounds.
