Chord name not slideable

• Jun 29, 2013 - 08:31

When I select a treble clef note (in piano) and
do Create>Text>ChordName and type in eg F7,
there are a couple of places where the
chord name falls on note-stems of the
base clef above.
I would like to select and slide the chord name down to
the open space immediately below where musescore
placed it, like I can when it is not on top of
something, But the selection by clicking gets the
notes instead. Is there a way to move the chord name?
Yes, the score is slightly crowded, but not bad,
and fits on rwo pages nicely, and I want it that way.
Is there a way to adjust the distance where the
chord name lands above the treble clef and
I can still slide it?

Zoom into the score (magnify) by typing 'Ctrl' along with the '+' sign. This makes it easier to differentiate the note from the chord name, so that you can click on and drag the chord to a different position.

Another way would be to drag the note out of the way (since it is already selected), then move the chord, then put the note back.

Zooming in definitely helps. Another trick is if MuseScore keeps trying to select the note rather than the chord, go ahead and let it, and use that as an opportunity to temporarily move the note (ctrl-up, for example). Then move the chord, then return the note.

Or, as an end-around - if the score is this tight, maybe consider reducing the overall scaling factor (Layout / Page Settings / Space), and putting in an explicit page break if necessary to keep MuseScore from trying to squeeze more systems onto the first page. With the staves & note a little smaller, but the same number of systems per page, there will be more room between systems.
