Can't get any playback sound.
I have Windows Vista with speaker volume at 85. All other sound app (itunes, YouTube etc) play fine. The volume on the Play Panel is about 70%, "Enable Sound While Editing" is enabled, "Enable MIDI input" Have been toggled both ways. I update to the latest version today. Anyone with any knowledge of this problem is asked to respond. Thanks for reading this.

Just a way out guess, but you reference "Play Panel". Have you been messing around with volumes at all?
or it may be that you're disabled it in the MIDI area.
Does MIDI play?

Hi Thanks for your response. Yes I did move the play panel sliders and midi files do play in Windows Media Player.

MIDI files may play in other programs, but perhaps you have in some way disabled MuScore's MIDI response. Nothing to do with the other programs. If you are still very new to MuScore it may behoove you to revert to factory settings: http://musescore.org/en/handbook/revert-factory-settings
If it should happen again, please try to describe the exact steps that seem to be related.

It worked up to the point where I clicked "OK". Then I got an error message saying that it didn't exist. I did the procedure before and after unistalling and reinstalling.

Thanks for the suggestion Shoichi. I answered your question earlier but it didn't get saved. My volume mixer has 3 sliders, under device are the speakers, and under apps are the Windows Sounds and iTunes sliders. Earlier today one of the sliders had tyhe name of this thread, "Can't get any playback sound". I have uninstalled and reinstalled musescore also.
I would check to make sure that it hasn't lost the soundfont.
Open the synthesiser page (Display>Synthesiser) and make sure that the box labelled SoundFont is not empty.
If it is, click on the button to the right to load a new one. If that is empty you will need to download another one and follow the instructions on this handbook page: http://musescore.org/en/handbook/soundfont

This sound font is visible "C:/Program Files (x86)/MuseScore/sound/TimGM6mb.sf2" in the display> synthesiser window. Also in Musescore>edit>preferences, I/O tab the box for "Use internal synthesiser" is checked and the box for "Portaudio" is checked with the API menu on MME and the Device menu on Realtek Digital Output. I don't know if these options make any difference in this situation.

That did not change anything. However I discovered that if I turn the volume on my speakers all the way up I can hear the rythmn of the notes as the cursor goes over each. I can not hear changes in pitch. But I can even hear some static from moving my mouse around.

I changed the Musescore>edit>preferences from Realtec Digital Output to Realtek High Definition. Also look at the attached image of my mixer. It has a slider with the name of this thread as the name of a device?????

If you can hear system sounds, music files with media player or cd hardware should be okay but it seems odd that the mouse interfere.
The I / O settings are ok?
So, in the Windows mixer should be the card MuseScore (as in the image: mixer).
This problem occurs only with a score or ever?
Do you want to attach the file here (*. Mscz)?
- Uninstall, delete the folder "preferences", as explained here:

- Reinstall.

This seems to be a tough one!
Please will you post screen shots of the following MuseScore windows.on your system.
1. Preferences>I/O
2. Mixer
3. Synthesiser
4. Play Panel
The volume slider marked with this thread is from Chrome btw it must be an idiosyncrasy of it to name the volume slider by the window title! I abandoned Chrome as too buggy some time ago and now use Firefox.
I had the same problem when I updated my Nightly!
What I did was go to the I/O tab as ChurchOrganist mentioned. Then I changed the API setting to Windows DirectSound and restarted, but the second Windows DirectSound. I had 2 Windows DirectSound options showing up, which could be part of the problem.
have you checked: Preferences?
Browse to the folder and select the correct one
