Top or Bottom note only select

I have noticed as I am separating piano parts for instrumental scores that being able to select only the top or bottom note of a chord or an inverse of this would greatly aid the splitting of piano parts. Perhaps a menu with a few selections, like only second note from bottom unless only two notes, then bottom. This is some thing I have had to just power through, but still takes me several hours for a single part on intense piano parts.
