custome measures per staff & staves per page?

Hi all. Is there a way I can customize how many measures are on a staff, or how many staves are on a page? I have a score I'm working on transposing for a friend, and I would like to have the layout of this score match the original. The original is 5 pages printed on 8.5x11" paper, and this one (after I have removed all custom line and page breaks, except for one necessary at the start) is 8 pages (with the last page only having one line).
The program is automatically putting system breaks in before I want them. Also, there should be 4 systems per page, not 3. Where do I go to change this? I do know of the breaks/spacer function in the sidebar, but it only adds custom ones, it does not move "default" ones. Also, I am having difficulty figuring out how to properly use the style > edit style ... page settings.
I'm using MuseScore 0.9.5 rev1944 on Windows XP Home 32-bit, 3GB RAM (4GB physical installed, but 32-bit XP only recognizes 3GB, and 256MB is allocated to the onboard video chipset), Realtek ALC889A audio onboard, 2.1GHz AMD X2 4000+, etc (ask if you need to know).
I entered all the notes manually (sometimes using MuseScore, sometimes using the online NoteFlight notation program, switching between the two by exporting/importing in MusicXML format). (I currently don't have a MIDI-capable keyboard, and last time I attempted to use one I had to very strictly observe tempo, and I often dynamically change tempo while I'm playing. Also getting an add-on midi sensor strip and mute bar for my current acoustic piano would cost several times more than I paid for my 1956 Baldwin Hamilton that's in the same room with the computer.) I've been working on this for a friend for a few days, and he really wanted it yesterday or today. Is there anything I can do to change the layout? (For example, would it be possible to edit the XML file with a text editor and manually put the breaks where I want them, or is there a way in MuseScore to do this?)
I attached a .xml version of the file. I would like the system breaks to be as follows (numbers are the first measure on a line/page, comma denotes system break, semicolon denotes page break, period is end of song):
1 (piano staff only), 4 (voice + piano, to be used for the remainder of the piece), 7, 10; 13, 16, 19, 22; 24, 26, 29, 32; 35, 37, 39, 42; 45, 48, 51 (53 measures total). This would basically be 4 systems per page, the program is currently assigning 3. Where do I go to change this? Adding page breaks using that icon only adds additional page breaks, it doesn't move them around (to have 4 or 5 systems on a page where it originally had 3 for example).

Try reducing the scaling a little bit.
In Layout -> Page settings -> Scaling

You can also play with Style -> Edit style -> page Staff distance and system distance. Making them small and add spacers if needed.

Regarding MIDI, MuseScore does not support real time input, partly because of your tempo observation. So a midi keyboard will help you only for entering pitches. Note lenght are changed with computer keyboard.

Regarding musicXML between noteflight and MuseScore, I'm pretty sure some layout information (page size etc...) are lost.

Thanks. That helped. :)

Now, take a look at measures 27 and 39 in the newly uploaded score...
The noteheads and stems for the voices aren't quite in their proper positions. I want the lower voice (the one with the quarter note chord) to be printed to the right of the upper voice (the one with the half note single note), instead of the other way around. As it is, it looks like the upper voice's note is sharing a stem with the lower voice's top note. Where do I go to fix this? I tried right clicking on it and changing the stem direction, or which side of the stem the notehead was on, but, for example, if I change which side of the stem the note is on, it moves the note, not the stem. I want to move the stem to the other side of the note, or preferably move the NOTE to the other side of the other voice's chord. Where do I go to do that?

Also, when I'm trying to select something on the page, sometimes when I click and drag it will instead move the entire page around like I'm dragging the paper around on a desktop. An example of this was when I was attempting to move a cleff change from the beginning of a measure to the middle of a measure.
Also, how would I select multiple non-consecutive elements, for example the "Vo." markers to the left of each voice staff? I want to hide those markers, but it's making me select each individual one for each line of the staff. I was able to hide the "Vo." markers individually, but when I exported as a PDF it's showing them all. (It is properly hiding some spacer rests in some multi voice measures where the voice doesn't start until the middle of the measure, but is there a better way to do that - start a voice in the middle of a measure?)

Also, how up to date is the handbook? I'd look there, but I don't know that I'd find everything in there...
Also, it seems that if I open a MusicXML file, then click the save button, it saves as the default MuseScore format (msc or mscz i think), and I have to use the save as to save it to the same MusicXML file that had been opened. What can I do to fix this?

(And, for possibly quicker responses ;) is there by any chance a MuseScore IRC channel somewhere?)
