Dynamics doesn't account for pressure

Hey there!

I noticed that when I add any of the piano dynamics it doesn't actually play softer. It simply turns down the volume, which dynamics is not about at all. Dynamics is about pressure – not volume. The way the dynamics sound right now is unnatural, and they're very irritating to listen to. You can hear a lot of pressure despite the lower volume, and it can ruin a really beautiful song when the keys are hammered down rather than softly poked.

Is it possible to fix the dynamics in the next update so that dynamics account for pressure?

Thank you.

I think to "fix" this you would effectively need different soudfonts for each dynamic level and I can't see that being easy to implement. Volume adjustment is far easier even if it doesn't play back perfectly.

I am no expert at all in piano sound fonts but you could listen to the ones you can get access to and see if one of them satisfies your craving. And if you are lucky it will even be compatible with Musescore.

MuseScore users MIDI "velocity" to control dynamics. Most soundfonts contain multiple samples for most instruments, keyed to the velocity, so that in fact a different sound is triggered at "f" as opposed to "mf" etc. It's possible the specific soundfont you are using does not do this for the specific instrument you are listening to. or it could be your ears are playing tricks on you. Feel free to attach your score and tell us which soundfont you are using (see View / Synthesizer), so we can see what might be going on. But in general, things should and do indeed work as I think you are are wanting.

I get it. It would be like having to attenuate the volume on a musician that does nothing but strike hard or turn up the volume on a musician that does nothing but play softly. YOU have changed the dynamics but the player isn't playing dynamically. For this it seems you would need many samples, layers, splits and customization, possibly multiple program changes across the musical passage. Likely YOU will have to make velocity adjustments even if you can string together progressively softer and softer (or harder and harder) attack envelopes simulating hammer speed etc. Yikes!
Just get a human to play it the way you want it/ PS Do not record it....ever...LOL
