Changing lyric typeface in Edit Text Style only changes half the chart

• Sep 14, 2013 - 12:49

I'm finally revising a setting of the Catholic Mass I wrote years ago to use the 2011 changes to the prayers. After going through setting the entire Glory to God, I went into Edit Text Style to change the typeface used for the lyrics. (In retrospect, I probably should have done that first, which I'll try to remember for the remaining parts.) After applying the change, only about half the setting had changed the typeface; and very oddly, it changed from about halfway through to the end. No lyrics on the first three pages or so were modified. Going back into each little lyric fragment is going to be tedious at best. Any guesses as to why this might have happened, and if there's a way I can actually apply a change to the lyric typeface that would take effect from end to end?

Thanks all.

Which font do you want, "Times New Roman" (the Default) or "MS Shell Dgl 2" (the setting used in the bottom half of your score and in the text style settings)? I assume the latter, right?

Sele one of the sylables with the wrong, reicht click, text properties. Setting, Change font and tick the 'apply to all similar'

Is that how it appeared at your end? Interesting. It's Optimum over here. But that did work. Thank you very much.

Now if only it were that easy to change the typeface on the instruments at the left margin (I've always had to delete them and reinstate them to get the typeface change to take).

Thanks again.

Probably because I don't have Optimum. Might not be a good choice then, as whoever receives your score may not have it either?

Styles changes only affect elements entered after the change. At least somethimes... text styles are know to be quite buggy in 1.x

Especially with the parts of the Mass, I have to put them all into a book; so the MS files are saved to PDF, which freezes the typeface; the separate pages would then be extracted as images and dropped into the book.

Style changes only affect elements entered after the change, unless there's a mechanism to change existing elements, such as what we just did. It's a pity no such mechanism exists for the instrument designations.

Sorry, Jojo, I never took German in high school. I don't quite understand your question. What's interesting is that behind the dialog box, I can see the Optimum face showing (on the words "Glory to God in the," the word "Glory" being partially obscured; and where my name appears as the composer). The only remaining Times New Roman in the file is in the margins of the systems, where the change from TNR to Optimum won't be applied unless I go through the hassle of deleting and reinstating the instruments. So despite whatever this dialog is telling you, it would appear that you are able to see the Optimum face I used for the lyrics (among other things).

...considering that the Optimum face can be seen in the PNG you posted. I've played with Acrobat practically on a daily basis going back at least as far as Acrobat 3 if not earlier; and I can't explain the cognitive dissonance.

I may well mis-interprete what Acrobats's properties dialog says?

Hmm, seems Optimimum is not embeded as a font, but the lettwers have been converted to Images.

Try to select some Optimum letters in Arcobat and try the same with some Times New Roman ones to see what I mean

Right click a lyric element -> Text properties. Change the font AND check "Apply to all similar element" at the bottom. Then press OK.

Optimum is not embedded in your PDF apparently but the text is "drawn" using this font. Could be a restriction due to the font format.

As I was saying earlier to Jojo, by the time everything is said and done, I'll be carving up the PDF output of MS into separate page-sized images that will then be brought forward into a page layout program to create the requisite book; that should fix things for the necessary final output. And Jojo also tipped me off to "Apply to all similar element." Thanks for backing him up on that.
