Tie back as well as forward

Right nhen I am adding a 2nd note to make a tied note into a tied chord, I write the tied notes, then go back to the first one and use "Shift+ (note)" to add the 2nd note to it. I then go to the next note and add the same note to it and then I have to tie them.

This requires me to go back, via mouse (if the 2nd note is under the original note) to select the first note I now want to tie to the next note.

I think it would be a great time-saving feature to allow one to tie the 2 notes together without leaving the 2nd note, a backward tie.

I can see problems with this unless there is another short-cut used (example: Ctrl/shift/+).

Or perhaps a cycle, pressing the same thing twice?
