Break print lines within a measure

I would like to break lines according to the lyrics or phrases, which sometimes break in the middle of measures (especially in 3/4 time.) [This is common in hymnbooks.] I know the "same effect" can be achieved by creating extra measures and fiddling with the counts and properties, but this is a kludge and very irritating to have to do for a whole piece. I'm thinking of breaking on a "count" or "tick" (in MIDI terms).
