Deleting notes in a chord

• Dec 28, 2013 - 00:20

I know normal you don't need to delete notes, you just replace them.
However, in this situation I DO need to delete notes.
I want erase a chord and in it's place just have a single note. deleting all the notes but one in the chord. How do I do that?

Click the notes you want to delete one at a time and press delete. Or simoly enter the new note right on top of the old chord - eg, click the chord and type the new note.

I never use a delete button, i just select the note and hit control-x to cut it. It's a little slow, but i haven't found a better way to do it

Well, *most* times if you are deleting chords, you want the whole chord deleted, and this doesn't require selecting notes individually - just select the range. So your specific use case is still not completely clear, but I *think* maybe you are describing a case where for whatever reason you have a sequence of chords and you are deciding you now want only the the melody formed by the top note of each chord. Perhaps you also want to keep the other notes but put them in other staves. Either way, see Edit / Tools / Explode. It separates the notes of the chord automatically. So there should not normally be a reason to select notes individually as you are.

If that still doesn't help, please attach a sample score and describe in more detail what you are actually trying to do, and chances are we can shoe you a way to do it more efficiently.
