Problem with time signatures

Can anyone tell me why Musescore won't write measure in 12/8 time when I change the time signature to 12/8?

If you're changing an existing Time Signature by right-clicking on it and selecting its Properties then this only alters the appearance. To get 12/8 time you ned to press [Shift]t to call up the Time Signature section of the master palette and create a 12/8 if you don't already have it.

Thanks. That's exactly the kind of answer I was looking for.

I also realized that apparently Musescore only auto creates quarter rests and not dotted quarter rests. I should have assumed that. This is the first time I'm writing in 12/8 with it.

This is still better than paying too much money for Finale.

I previously put in a feature request for the user to be able to define the rest pattern much the way you can set beam groupings. I hope it is included in 3.0 when it comes out.

As far as the auto generate rests are concerned, longer rests ARE less common than shorter rests, so it it not normally too much key pressing to make the dotted 1/4 rests or dotted 1/2 rests. Having said that, I really dislike whole rests being auto generated in 12/8 time music. And I agree, for what you get in MuseScore, you can't beat the price. The same cannot be said for some other free notation programs.
