Connecting separate notes

• Feb 17, 2014 - 21:58

Hi all,

I have a problem that when I import my MIDI from Ableton I get very messy scores, there are too many separate notes, as instead they could be connected. I am talking about this:

Is there an option how to easily connect those notes? I haven't found any. I think that I should place quarter note and above that note to have some sort of brake ? Could you help me, is there a way to achieve what i want ? I was asked by 9 people to write these sheets and I want to help them, spread music :)

Many thanks,

There is no good way to connect those. I don't mean that MuseScore isn't providing one - I mean, standard notation simply doesn't have this concept. Normally, passage like this - where a chord is arpeggiated but notes are held out so they overlap - are notated without the overlap, using the pedal to make them overlap.

Unfortunately, trying to automatically get readable notation out of arbitrary MIDI files is a problem about as complex as getting a computer to watch a move and produce a readable script from it. It's jsut way, way, way more complex than most people give it credit for. There is pretty much no substitute for a having a person skilled in music notation work the controls, either entering the music by hand from scratch, or heavily editing the output of an automatic conversion to amke something readable out of it.

For any MIDI import into MuseScore the MIDI file saved from the sequencer needs to have been specially prepared for import.

All notes should be quantised for position and duration.
A time signature event should be added at the beginning
A key signature event should be added at the beginning.

If this is not done then MuseScore will try to faithfully reproduce the note positions and durations in the MIDI file. Usually this results i a huge mess :)
