saving less than a whole page as png

• Feb 20, 2014 - 21:55

I am putting vocal music into a hymnbook style page. I need to be able to save the music as just the size of the music line. I am getting a full page for each save.

A related question, I could not remove the "piano" from the front of the music line.

I can do these things by saving and opening in Irfanview, then cutting out what I don't want, but there should be an easy way to do this in the program.

Thanks,

art

I assume you are actually saying that deleting the label "Piano" *did* work, but that this also had an effect on the layout. That's to be expected - by removing the label, there is more room on the line, so more can fit on it. If you want to force the line to break where it did before, simply add a line break - see Break or spacer in the Handbook. If that's not what you're saying, please post the score you are having trouble with and explain what are are doing.

As for trimming the export PNG, there are a number of options. One is to download and use the Snippet Creator plugin (see Plugins menu at right of the this page). Another is to download an use either ImageMagick or GraphicsMagick - two open sourc programs than can perform this sort of trimming automatically. Another option, if you are using LibreOffce or OpenOffice to assemble the hymnal, is to use the MuseScore Example Manager plugin that can automate not only the trimming of the snippets but also setting up a link from your document to the score, so you can later edit the snippet by simply clicking it within in the document to automatically bring up MuseScore with the original score loaded.

Thanks. For trimming I assumed that I just couldn't find the way to do it. I appreciate being directed to those programs, and will also try the Snnippet Creator plugin.

I have three files here for you with the "piano" question documented. The file with the label "replaced" in it is what I am looking for. Sorry that should be in the support forum but didn't realize there could be a problem.

Again thanks to you all for immediate help. I can get on with my work.

Interesting. the file with the blanked out "Piano" stayed at the same length when done, but when saved it reverted to being extremely short like the other. so I don't have a solution/work around yet. Will try deleting off the png, should work there.

But for hymn type production, you often need the notes spead out not pulled together as close as possible.

When you deleted the 'piano' instrument name, it allowed for more room.
Under menu item: Style / Edit General Style / Page there is a 'Last system fill threshold'. Set this to a lower value - say 10% - since you only have 2 measures; and your score is only a single line (therefore it's the last system). Doing this will allow the measures to fill the line.

BTW: I, too, noticed your blanked out 'Piano' turned out short when I opened it.

Regards.
