Send MIDI message

• Aug 21, 2009 - 01:05

I would like some way to send a MIDI message at a certain point in playback. It seems that this would solve many playback issues relating to controlers, grace notes, pitch bends, slurs, pedaling, etc etc. This could be as simple as right-clicking on a note, selecting "Special MIDI messages" to bring up an input box. Then having an offset input where you would enter the number of ticks before or after that note-on message. Then a text box to enter the midi message in hex. These can be looked up in a table. For example, to start a slur for a wind instrument on channel 1, enter "B0,44,7F" to mean a controller change on channel 1, the legato controler, fully on. This would be difficult to use for most people, but would provide features not currently developed for people willing to do the work to find them.

Although I have to admit the fact that, traditionally, notators are usually quite primitive in supporting MIDI.

Using notators, I usually later on resort to a sequencer of some sort to provide such niceties as Expression Controller, SysEx Messages, and the like. But it would be a dream come true to be able to do this from within MuseScore.
