MuseScore does not start on Ubuntu 9.04

• Aug 21, 2009 - 08:47

Doesn't work any more…
All I have is a button in the bar, saying "Starting MuseScore"… then it closes, and… nothing.
Removing / installing from Synaptic did not help.
Is there any log file I could join to figure out what happens?

What version of MuseScore are you running? If not 0.9.5, upgrade first.
If you are running 0.9.5, did you upgrade from 0.9.4 or is it a clean install?

0.9.5, upgraded from 0.9.4.
I am running it on a MacBook Pro 2,2, btw.

EDIT :
I am starting to see the probable origin of the problem.
When I try to launch "mscore" from the terminal, I have this error message:

elvio@Elvio-MacBookPro:~$ mscore
Suspending PulseAudio
/usr/bin/mscore.real: /usr/lib/libgcc_s.so.1: version `GCC_4.2.0' not found (required by /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6)

As I am new to Ubuntu, I test everything on the system. Some days ago, I tried the "Computer Janitor" program, which is supposed to clean all unused libraries… well, it wasn't a good idea, apparently :-S

However, /usr/lib/libgcc_s.so.1 IS in place, and I even removed / installed gcc 4.3.3 and reinstalled libgcc1…
…but I still have the same error message. Any ideas?

Well well… the problem was not in some missing libraries, but in some extra libraries, apparently…
I got TWO libgcc_s.so.1 : one in /usr/lib/ (225.7 KB ) and another in /lib/ (53.5 KB).
I removed the bigger one, and MuseScore started again.
I guess some software installed this library… and I wonder why it is so big compared to the working one.
I suppose that MuseScore looks into the /usr/lib/ directory before than in the /lib/ directory because of the environment variables, and that you can't do anything against this.

Thanks, and keep up the good work!
